The security of the 358 fence is not coincidental — it is the product of a calculated geometry. The 76.2 × 12.7 mm narrow aperture physically prevents a finger or cutting tool from entering. The Ø4 mm high-tensile wire makes cutting with standard pliers near-impossible.

Production Process

Integrated production from raw material to quality control

  1. 01

    Wire Sourcing

    Ø4.00 mm steel wires are produced from high-tensile steel to EN 10025 standard; tensile strength and hardness tests are applied at goods-in inspection.

  2. 02

    Straightening & Pitch Setting

    Wires are positioned on CNC straightening lines to the 76.2 × 12.7 mm aperture dimension; horizontal and vertical wire spacings are set to precise tolerances.

  3. 03

    Spot Welding

    Every intersection is secured by fusion welding on automatic spot welding machines; a weld joint tensile test is applied to every batch.

  4. 04

    Surface Pre-treatment

    Before powder coating, panels undergo acid pickling, phosphating, and chrome-free pre-coating; ensuring long-term paint adhesion.

  5. 05

    Electrostatic Powder Coating

    Panels are coated in an oven environment at 180–200 °C with electrostatic powder coating; UV resistance, scratch resistance, and long service life.

  6. 06

    Quality Control & Packaging

    Aperture tolerance, weld strength, coating thickness, and colour conformity are checked; panels are packaged with a test certificate.

What Is a High Security Fence (358)?

The high security fence is a specialist engineered product also known as "358" or "Prison Mesh". It takes its name from its defining characteristics: a 3" × 0.5" mesh aperture (76.2 × 12.7 mm) and 8-gauge (~Ø4 mm) wire. These dimensions are chosen deliberately: too narrow to insert a finger, too small to admit a wire cutter, and too narrow to form a foot or hand hold.

Security Value of the Mesh Geometry

Compared with the 50–200 mm mesh aperture of standard panel fences, the 76.2 × 12.7 mm aperture of the 358 provides three critical advantages:

  • Anti-climb: The narrow horizontal aperture does not allow foot or hand holds to form.
  • Anti-cut: No cutting tool (pliers, chisel) can fit into the aperture; the Ø4 mm wire provides a thick cutting-resistance.
  • Visual permeability: Despite the dense wire mesh, inside-to-outside visibility is maintained with no blind spots.
