BOX SECTION WEIGHT CALCULATOR
Enter width (A), height (B) and wall thickness (t) to get mass per metre (kg/m) and total tonnage for square or rectangular hollow sections. Ideal for panel fence columns, gate posts and mesh frames.
Inputs
Formula
m = 0.0157 × t × (A + B − 2t) (kg/m)
A: width (mm), B: height (mm), t: wall thickness (mm). Steel density is taken as 7850 kg/m³. Cross-section area equals 2t × (A + B − 2t).

Common sizes
Most frequently used box sections for panel fence columns, gate frames and mesh structures. Production tolerance within ±5%.
| Size (mm) | Mass (kg/m) |
|---|---|
| 20 × 20 × 1.5 | 0.871 |
| 30 × 30 × 1.5 | 1.342 |
| 40 × 40 × 1.5 | 1.813 |
| 40 × 40 × 2.0 | 2.386 |
| 50 × 50 × 2.0 | 3.014 |
| 60 × 40 × 2.0 | 3.014 |
| 60 × 60 × 2.0 | 3.642 |
| 80 × 80 × 3.0 | 7.253 |
| 100 × 50 × 3.0 | 6.782 |
Production tolerance
Per EN 10219-2, welded hollow sections have a wall thickness tolerance of ±10% and a side length tolerance of ±1%. A 3% scrap allowance is sufficient when sizing orders.
Coating options
Konak Tel Çit box sections can be hot-dip galvanised (40–80 µm), electro-galvanised or electrostatic powder-coated. The choice of coating directly extends field service life.
