AWG ↔ MM WIRE GAUGE CONVERTER
Suppliers in the US, Canada and Latin America specify wire diameter by AWG (American Wire Gauge); Konak Tel Çit works in metric. This tool converts between the two using the ASTM B258 formula and shows cross-section area plus the closest ISO R20 metric diameter. Inputs
Formula Used (ASTM B258)
d(mm) = 0.127 × 92^((36 − n) / 39)
n = AWG number. For 0000 use n = −3, for 000 use n = −2, for 00 use n = −1, for 0 use n = 0. Cross-section area is A = π × d² / 4. The ISO R20 equivalent is the nearest value in the standard wire-diameter series (0.80 – 5.00 mm).

AWG ↔ mm Reference Table
The most commonly used AWG numbers with their millimetre and cross-section-area equivalents per ASTM B258. For wire-fence manufacturing the critical band is roughly AWG 6 – 20.

Which Standard?
AWG (American Wire Gauge) has been codified under ASTM B258 since 1857. The USA, Canada and most of Latin America specify wire diameters in AWG. Europe and Türkiye use the metric system (mm); Birmingham Wire Gauge (BWG) is typically reserved for tubing and needles — do not confuse BWG with AWG.
Manufacturing Tolerance
EN 10218-2 sets the diameter tolerance of galvanised steel wire at ±0.03 mm for diameters above 1 mm and ±0.02 mm below 1 mm. A ±0.02 mm rounding error is typical when converting via AWG.
